How to clean blinds

Cleaning your blinds can be a very big chore. Even if you decide to do it yourself, it takes some knowledge about how to clean them or you could ruin them. I have been cleaning blinds for a long time and I have used numerous methods on many different types of blinds. I have learned from others that it is very easy to ruin blinds through using the wrong type of cleaner or soaking dirty blinds for too long. The very first step is to determine what type of blinds you have. Are they metal, wood, aluminum, or plastic? It's sometimes difficult to tell and if you are not sure take extra precautions. For example, if you think the blinds are plastic, but could be wood, then treat them like wood. "Better safe, than sorry," is what my grandmother taught me.
After you have determined the type of blind, then move to the cleaning method. There is a great website that offers some great tips on how to do this. As a professional cleaner, I often cater to what the customer wants. I will take the blinds and clean them at our shop, but sometimes the customer would rather have them cleaned at home. Either way, I make sure my employees take extreme care and are aware of the different cleaning methods.
